Ungovernable Bodies
UNGOVERNABLE BODIES IS FULL
Ungovernable Bodies is where crip theory meets folklore meets radical history meets mysticism. This class is for those of us that are sick, mad, disabled, and neurodivergent - those of us whose bodies and spirits are sites of prophetic refusal, complex narratives, entangled aliveness and a fully inhabited anti-capitalism.
Drawing on folklore, radical histories, and the writings of crips and mystics across time, we will explore what it means to center our own lived experiences of illness, madness, and disability outside of a medicalized, ableist, framework.
The ableist, capitalist world we live in now (and which lives in us) wasn’t a given - it is historically specific and created. How did it get this way? Why is it so pervasive? And most importantly, how can we resist it?
Building on the wisdom of crips who came before us, we encounter our own bodies and experiences as sites of revolt, refusal, desire, wisdom, joy, decay, ecstasy, estrangement, and communion. We find new solidarites, new insights, new possibilities for community and care.
Together we will reflect on our experiences, create meaning together, and dream into futures of collective care and ungovernability.
Classes are live by zoom, recorded and available by request for occasional missed sessions (this class is not designed to be engaged with primarily as a recorded class), and closed captioning will be available.
